Scattered 70 miles off the coast of Africa, the Canary Islands combine European sophistication with a superb African weather.

With variety of beaches, volcanic landscape and attractions, Lanzarote, member of Canary Islands, which means "the red group of mountains" is an intriguing island full of surprises for holiday makers. About 300 volcanoes form the ash and create a moonscape that covers much of Lanzarote. The island is announced as Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO. Arrecife is the capital city and the island's commercial and administrative town. Most of the airlines flying to Lanzarote offer charter flights, however British Airways now operates scheduled flights to Lanzarote, directly from London Gatwick. Iberia, the Spanish national carrier as well as Spanair and Air Europa also offer scheduled flights from mainland Spain. The flight time to Lanzarote is around
4 hours from Europe and with flights operating every day, it is not usually too difficult to locate a suitable Lanzarote bound fligh.



The Canary islands, outbursts of volcanic rock, scattered over some 7,541 square kilometres in the Atlantic Ocean, have been known as the Fortunate Islands since the days of antiquity. And Lanzarote, as many of its admirers will readily confirm, may well claim to be the most fortunate of them all. Playa Blanca is an upmarket resort and enjoys the the best of the weather on Lanzarote island. It boasts many fine golden sandy beaches and a beautiful promenade lined with a whole range of cafes and wonderful restaurants to suit all tastes. The stunning new marina has a host of waterfront cafes, shops and restaurants. The pedestrianised village hassupermarkets and many excellent shops, and there is a market held every Saturday morning. Regular boat trips to Canary islands run from the harbour, as well as ferries making the short 20 minute trip to Fuerteventura.
